Winter is a season where in our skin needs a lot of care and attention. If we avoid taking care of our skin during winter, our skin will become prone to wrinkles, ageing and a lot of skin damage. Cold winds irritate and chap the surface vessels of the skin and the natural production of oils slow down. Following are the specific ways to care for your skin in winter:

Give up all drying agents like astringents and soaps. Instead use a  moisturizer if your skin is oily and gets dry in winter. 

Those with dry skin should make it a habit to cream face and hands before going to bed. As dry skin is prone to wrinkles so it acts as an anti ageing formula.

In winter your skin loses water and essential oils. You can replenish them by adding a few drops of oil to water while bathing. It will nourish the skin and is a very good home remedy.



Don't bath before going out or immediately upon returning. Any sudden temperature changes will disturb the moisture balance of your skin.

It is always best and recommended to wash face with warm water.

For lips use vaseline or cream before applying lipstick. It will heal the chapped lips by providing sufficient moisture to the skin.

For hairs, use gentle shampoo and conditioner. It is always best to use herbal products as chemicals damage the hairs.

Take hot oil treatment once a week. Rub hot oil and massage gently on the scalp. Steam with hot towel as it will let the scalp to absorb oil.

Cleanse face with milk cream, few drops of lime and a pinch of turmeric every morning.

For those with very flaky skin, every night before going to bed take 1 tsp of milk cream and add few drops of glycerine and rose water. Apply on face, neck and hands. Leave overnight and in the morning wipe it out with a tissue. Then rinse the face with warm water.

Apply the juice of cauliflower on the warts daily until it falls.

The oil extracted from the shell of the cashewnut is useful in warts as it is a strong irritant to the skin. It should be applied externally over the affected area.

Skin care techniques must be modified as per the changes in the seasons and weather conditions and varying climates. In the post, I had included some aspect of summer season that creates problem to our skin. And I would rather say, summer is the better time to get all the know-how on  skin care so that you can start towards prevention and win the battle against sun damage and ageing skin. 


Tips For Summer Skin Care

Try avoiding skin exposure to the sun when it is the most powerful from 11am to 4 pm.

You should use sunscreen on your face, hands and feet as well when you go out.

Use sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15 to block UVA and UVB rays. 

Wear long-sleeved shirt and wide-brimmed when you go out.



Use alpha-hydroxy lotions also to keep skin smooth and clear.

Choose summer special products for your skin.

Water intake should be increased during  summer. Hard drinks should also be cut down and replaced by natural and cooling drinks such as juices and herbal teas. During the summer, fatty and oily foods should be minimised.  Instead, one should increase intake of water and fibrous foods. 

The best fruits for your skin during this season would be hydrating agents such as melons and citrus fruits. 

There is no reason to be afraid if you have provided your skin with the right protection against the glaring sun. It will to give you that flawless glowing summer skin that you desire.

Punch a small hole on the Vitamin E capsule and rub on stretch marks. Give it a little time to absorb and start working on the affected area. Then wash or wipe off.

Mix one ounce of carrier oil like avocado, sweet almond, jojoba, with seven drops of lavender and five drops of chamomile. This will help in reducing stretch marks.

Lemon juice and honey mixed together could be used for a sensitive skin to remove skin pigmentation.

Make a blend of tomato juice and a few drops of lime juice to use as a home scrub on the skin for a lightening skin pigmentation and astringent effect on the skin.

Mix turmeric with honey or lemon juice, they are natural bleachers and so removes skin pigmentation.

Apply some mashed Strawberry on your face.Leave it on for 15 minutes. Then wash it off with water. It lightens the skin pigmentation.

Soak almonds overnight. Make a paste of these almonds mixed with milk cream. Apply it daily for 15 minutes to get rid of skin pigmentation.

Rub raw garlic on the pimples several times a day. It helps a lot to make your pimples disappear.

Honey mixed with cinnamon powder and applied for about 30 minutes on the affected areas cures pimples.

Applying fresh mint juice on pimples is one of the best and well known home remedy to cure pimples.

Turmeric powder mixed with sandalwood powder and a little water when applied to the face reduces the appearance of pimples.

Make a mixture of Warm honey and gram flour and apply it to face. Let it dry and then wash it off with warm water. It helps to cure pimples.

Make a paste of tulsi leaves and apply on pimples. It helps to clear pimples.

Make a paste of one teaspoon of sandalwood powder and turmeric mixed with milk. Apply it on pimples and let it dry. Then wash it off with warm water. It also helps to make pimples disappear.

Aloe vera is known to remove excess oil. Apply a paste of aloe vera on the skin to remove excess oil from the skin. Is is a well known home remedy for oily skin.

In the morning dab cotton in milk and wipe your face with it. It removes all the excess oil from the skin. It should also be done at night before going to sleep. It is very good for oily skin.


For oily skin a very easy home remedy is to splash your face with cold water several times a day. This also helps in removing excess oil from the oily skin.

Grind almond and mix it with honey. This can be used as a scrub for oily skin. Massage with this scrub lightly for few minutes. It also helps for people with oily skin problems.

Lime juice mixed with cucumber juice should be applied at least half an hour before going to bath. It also helps in removing excess oil from oily skin.

Papaya is also very good for oily skin. Either its paste can be applied to the skin or it can also be directly applied. Take a piece of papaya and massage it on oily skin. It removes excess oil from the skin.
